The CIReN Mini Hackathon — The CIReN Experience 1.0 — is a campus hackathon organized by the Campus Innovation and Research Network (CIReN) at Central University.

 

This event is open to student developers, designers, and problem-solvers from Central University and beyond. No experience level is required — if you can think and you are willing to build, you belong here.

There is no assigned theme. Your team will identify a real-world problem, propose a solution, and build a working prototype from scratch on the day. The most innovative yet most workable solution wins.

Our Partners

This event is backed by Major League Hacking (MLH) — the official student hackathon league, supporting over 5 million student developers across 200+ countries. We are also in collaboration with Google Gemini, Google's most capable AI model, available to participants as a building tool. Our official Talent and Internship Partner is AmaliTech — a technology company dedicated to developing African tech talent and connecting students to global career opportunities. AmaliTech will be serving as judges at the event.

 

Requirements

What to Build

Build anything that solves a real problem. There is no assigned theme — your team decides the problem, the solution, and how to build it. The only requirement is that your solution is built from scratch on the day. No pre-built projects. Your solution can be a web app, mobile app, AI-powered tool, or any working software prototype. If it solves a real problem and it works, it qualifies.

 

 

By the end of Build Session Two, your team must submit:

  • A video recording demonstrating your working prototype
  • A short project description — what problem you solved, why it matters, and how your solution works
  • A link to your GitHub repository

Judging will be based on innovation, technical execution, and real-world applicability. The winning team will be announced during the week following the event.

Judging Criteria

  • Innovation
    Is the idea genuinely new or does it solve an existing problem in a better way? Judges will assess the originality of the concept and the creativity of the approach.
  • Technical Execution
    Does the prototype actually work? Judges will assess the functionality, stability, and quality of the build demonstrated during submission.
  • Real-world applicability
    Could this solution be used outside of this room? Judges will assess whether the problem being solved is real, relevant, and whether the solution could have meaningful impact beyond the event.
